Gambling is legal in Comoros as long as it takes place inside a casino. They also allow online gaming companies to locate their operations within the country.

Comoros is the rare case of a Muslim-dominated country which still allows some form of gambling.

There are currently two casinos operating in Comoros. They are:

Online Gambling in Comoros

In 1999, Anjouan in Comoros passed legislation to allow for international firms to site their operations there.

In order for an online gaming site to obtain a license to operate in Comoros, they must first create an international company. An annual fee of $1,400 must be paid, in addition to $20,000 per year for a gambling license. Once a license is obtained, an unlimited number of gambling sites can be operated under the license.

Currently, the only online gaming site which operates from Comoros is Slotland. This site, established in 2004, does support the English language. Slotland does not accept players from the United States.

Facts About Comoros

Comoros is an island nation off the coast of Africa. It is nearest to Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar and Seychelles. Before 2002, it was known as the Islamic Federal Republic of the Comoros. The population of the country is estimated to be 798,000. Comoros has been marred by a number of coups since it declared independence in 1975.

The country is made up of four main islands, as well as a number of smaller ones. The main islands are:

- Ngazidia
- Mwali
- Nzwani
- Mahore (France considers this island an overseas community and still administers it. It was the only island to abstain from voting for independence from France in 1975.)

One of the poorest countries in the world, Comoros has an unemployment rate of 14.3 percent. The nation’s economy is driven by hunting, fishing and forestry.

Comoros is one of the least populous countries in the world. With an average of 712 people per square mile, however, it is also one of the most densely populated nations in the world. Major urban centers include Fomboni, Domoni, Mutsamudu, Moroni and Tsembehou.

There are three official languages - Comorian, Arabic and French. Comorian is the language most commonly spoken by citizens. French is the language of formal education, while Arabic is used in the teaching of the Islamic holy text. A number of local dialects are also spoken on the island nation.

The major religion is Sunni Islam, and it is estimated that 98% of the population follows its teachings. Roman Catholicism is also adhered to by a minority of citizens.
