However, it had existed for several years prior, with the Cyberluck Casino being granted a license back in 1999. Before an Internet company can be awarded a license by the Governor of the Netherlands Antilles, they must register with the Chamber of Commerce as a locally formed legal entity and must state the island from which they wish to operate (the island may then choose to require a contribution of up to 2% of the license holder‘s yearly net gain). After an investigation by the Department of Justice, a provisional license will be issued for a $33,708 deposit. A sub-license may also be obtained for fees ranging from $2000 to $4000. Once a license has been issued, the holder pays $5,618 per month in license fees. After two years, the license fee can be re-negotiated. There are currently 300 online gambling sites in operation from the Netherlands Antilles. 291 of those sites support the English language. Some of these sites include: - Carbon Poker Netherlands Antilles InformationPart of the Lesser Antilles, the Netherlands Antilles were previously known as the Netherlands West Indies or the Dutch Antilles/West Indies. Comprised of two groups of islands, the Netherlands Antilles are an autonomous part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The head of state is the ruling monarch of the Netherlands, although he is represented on the islands by a governor. The two island groups which make up the Netherlands Antilles are: The Leeward Islands - Bonaire The Windward Islands - Saba On December 15th, 2008, the Netherlands Antilles are scheduled to be dissolved as a unified political entity. Political relations between the islands have been strained in the past, and the idea of one state never received full support. In fact, Aruba seceded from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986. When the split occurs, two associated states within the Kingdom of the Netherlands will be formed - Curacao and Sint Maarten. Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius will become part of the Netherlands and receive the status of special municipalities. The primary forces behind the economy of Netherlands Antilles are tourism and petroleum (shipment and refinement, specifically). All consumer and capital goods are imported. The official currency is the Antillean guilder. The official languages of the islands are English, Papiamentu and Dutch. Spanish, while not an official language, has also been increasing in usage. Most residents of the Netherlands Antilles are Christian, with the Roman Catholic faith being the most popular. A sizeable Jewish population is also present on the islands. |
