Gambling is legal in Senegal. This encompasses both casino gambling and the national lottery. Senegal is the rare Islamic country which actually allows some forms of gambling. In fact, many Muslims in the country do not consider gambling to be morally wrong.

Casinos in Senegal

Senegal has four legal casinos in operation, with Casino Terrou-bi being the largest.

- Casino Du Cap Vert (Route de Ngor, Dakar-Yoff, Dakar, Senegal) The oldest casino in Senegal, the Du Cap Vert’s slot machines are open daily from 6:30m until 4am, while table games are available from 10pm until 4am. There are 69 gaming machines and six table games (including Poker, Blackjack and American Roulette). A restaurant, bar and 36-room hotel are also on the premises. - Casino Du Port (19 Boulevard de la Liberation, Dakar, Senegal) Slots are open daily from noon until 4am, and table games are available Tuesday to Sunday from 8pm until 3am. There are 100 gaming machines and ten table games available (including Stud Poker, English Roulette and Blackjack). A 300-seat Bingo hall is also located on the premises. - Casino Terrou-bi (Bd Pother King, Dakar, Senegal) This casino is open daily from noon until 4am for slots and Thursday thru Tuesday from 10pm until 3am for table games (including Poker, English Roulette, Blackjack and American Roulette). Lottery in Senegal

Founded in 1982, the national lottery of Senegal is managed by the Loterie Nationale Senegalese (LONASE). Based in Dakar, their operations serve Senegal and select parts of West Africa. They offer both Lotto and Sports Toto, and they can be reached for more information at +221 839 3800.

Senegalese Facts

Senegal is located in Western Africa and borders Mauritania, Mali, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Gambia. The capital city is Dakar, and it is located on the Cape Verde Peninsula.

The country is divided into 11 regions. Each regional capital has the same name as the respective region. They are:

- Diourbel
- Fatick
- Kaolack
- Kolda
- Louga
- Matam
- Saint-Louis
- Tambacounda
- Thies
- Ziguinchor

Senegal’s main industries include mining, food processing, cement, chemicals, artificial fertilizer, textiles, refining, tourism and petroleum. Major exports include groundnuts, fabrics, cotton, fish, chemicals and calcium phosphate.

The population of Senegal is around 11 million, with around 70 percent of citizens living in rural areas. The largest ethnic group is the Wolof. Other groups include: Peul, Toucouleur, Serer, Lebou, Jola, Mandinka, Maures, Soninke and Bassari. Around 50,000 Europeans also reside in Senegal, as well as communities of Vietnamese, Lebanese and Mauritanians.

French is the official language of Senegal, but most people also speak their own ethnic language. Other languages include: Pulaar, Portuguese Creole, Portuguese and Cape Verdean Creole.

The main religion is Islam, with 95 percent of the population following its teachings. Christian religions make up about four percent of the population, which includes Roman Catholics and various Protestant denominations. Animist beliefs make up about one percent of the population. Followers of Buddhism and Judaism are also present within Senegal.
