Sudanese Gambling Laws

Gambling is illegal in Sudan due to Islam being the primary religion. Islam teaches that gambling is evil and forbids followers from engaging in the practice.

Sudan is the largest country in Africa and is the tenth largest country in the world. It is bordered by Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Chad, Libya, Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Considered the most unstable country in the world, Sudan has been riddled with problems for years. Due to their aggressive Islamic stance, many of their neighbors (along with the international community) have had trouble dealing with Sudan. In fact, they are also considered a state sponsor of terrorism, and American companies have been barred from doing business with them since 1997.

Clashes between rebels and government forces in the Darfur region have resulted in what many call the worst humanitarian crisis of the 21st century. Arab militias have been charged with bringing order to the area, but these forces have been accused of engaging in genocide, rape and theft. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced, and the death toll is estimated between 200,000 and 400,000.

80% of the country’s workforce is devoted to the pursuit of agriculture, but farms are vulnerable to both floods and drought. But despite chronic instability and American sanctions, the Sudanese economy is listed as one of the fastest growing in the world.

The population is estimated to be 37 million, but civil war has made accurate record keeping difficult.

Sudan is home to over 597 different tribes, and over 400 different dialects are spoken. The official languages of the country are Arabic and English.

75% of the country follows the teachings of Islam. 15% to 20% follow indigenous beliefs, and a 5% minority follows Christianity.
